Zement ist ein Experimental-Rock-Duo, bestehend aus den Multi-Instrumentalisten Philipp Hager (Gitarre, Synthesizer, Bass, Saxophon, Gesang) und Christian Büdel (Schlagzeug, Percussion), das Elemente des Neo-Krautrock, Neo-Psychedelia, Noise-Rock & verschiedene Arten zeitgenössischer elektronischer Tanzmusik mit dem Geist des Free-Jazz zu einem einzigartigen eklektischen Sound-Mix verbindet, der die Zuhörer auf eine faszinierende Klangreise mitnimmt!

Fans von zeitgenössischen Acts wie Föllakzoid, LCD Soundsystem, Trans Am, 10000 Russos und CAVE oder auch Caribou werden sich hier wie zu Hause fühlen.

Nach dem Erfolg ihres letzten Albums ROHSTOFF werden ZEMENT im Februar 2025 ihr neues Album PASSAGEN über das Berliner Qualitätslabel CRAZYSANE RECORDS veröffentlichen. PASSAGEN wird Zements Klangforschung noch weiter vorantreiben. Es liefert mehr Disco, mehr Punch, mehr Glitzer, mehr Jazz. Die ewige Zukunftsmusik Krautrock bekommt hier ein Update verpasst. Der Motorik Beat, den Neu!-Schlagzeuger Klaus Dinger der Welt schenkte, hat inzwischen gut fünf Jahrzehnte auf dem Buckel und strebt weiter unaufhörlich ins Morgen, dem Horizont entgegen. Für Zement wird er zum Vehikel, um nachzuspüren, was hinter dem Horizont kommen könnte. Die Band wird anlässlich der Veröffentlichung im Jahr 2025 auch ausgewählte Live-Shows spielen! ZEMENT, bestehend aus Philipp Hager (Gitarre, Synthesizer, Bass, Saxophon, Orgel, Gesang) & Christian Büdel (Schlagzeug, Percussion), sind zurück mit ihrem vierten Album PASSAGEN, das die Hörer auf eine faszinierende Klangreise mitnimmt. Wiederum von demselben Team produziert, das schon ihr letztes Album ROHSTOFF so besonders gemacht hat, taucht ihr neues Album PASSAGEN noch tiefer in ihre einzigartige Klang- und Kunstwelt ein, die für sich selbst steht! Aufgenommen von Florian Helleken bei Hersbrooklyn Recordings, abgemischt von Lolo Blümler in den Iron Bar Studios und gemastert von Chris Hielscher bei Subsounddistortion, verspricht PASSAGEN, auf der für die Band typischen Fusion von Sounds aufzubauen. Kombiniert mit dem atemberaubenden Artwork und Design von Sabrina Zeltner und Philipp Dittmar vom Designbüro Complex Pleasures, nimmt PASSAGEN den Hörer mit auf eine Reise in den einzigartigen Kosmos von ZEMENT.

Mit Einflüssen aus den frühen elektronischen Werken von Kraftwerk und den hypnotischen Wiederholungen der Krautrock-Legenden Neu! und CAN, kombiniert mit neueren Spielarten der experimentellen elektronischen Rock-Musik, haben Zement einen einzigartigen hybriden Sound geschaffen, der sowohl nostalgisch als auch futuristisch wirkt. Die Rhythmen kreisen und Synthesizer wirbeln noch immer. Kombiniert mit psychedelischen Fuzzy-Gitarren, kosmischen Saxophon-Sounds und pulsierenden Drums und Percussions, liefert die Musik-Manufaktur ZEMENT hier einen neuen heißen Sound mit einem Psych-Pop-Twist, der sich anfühlt, als wäre er direkt am East River entstanden. Inspiriert von Künstler*innen der New Yorker Downtown-Szene aus Vergangenheit und Gegenwart wie John Zorn und Sonic Youth oder LCD Soundsystem und Animal Collective und Künstl*innen der neuen Londoner Jazz-Szene wie Comet is Coming, tauchen ZEMENT mit ihrem neuen Album PASSAGEN noch weiter ein in einen eklektischen Mix aus zeitgenössischer elektronischer Tanzmusik, kombiniert mit Einflüssen aus Jazz, Psychedelia, Noise und No-Wave-Sounds ein, immer mit dem Wissen, wo ihre musikalischen Wurzeln liegen.

Um es noch spannender zu machen: PASSAGEN ist ein Konzeptalbum geworden, in dem Worte mehr Platz finden als je zuvor in der Geschichte der Band. Inspiriert von den Werken von Autoren wie Mark Fisher und Walter Benjamin erzählt das neueste Werk eine Coming-of-Age-Geschichte eines Menschen, der auf der Suche nach einem neuen Leben, einem neuen Selbst an einem neuen Ort ist, der sich Fragen über die Welt, in der wir leben, stellt und nicht bereit ist, die Bitterkeit gewinnen zu lassen. PASSAGEN ist ein loses Narrativ, ein stream of consciousness, bei dem sich Songs mit Lyrics und rein instrumentale Stücke ergänzen. Nachdenken und Artikulieren treffen auf die Euphorie freier Improvisation und die Katharsis des Dancefloors. Free your mind and your ass will follow – und vice versa. Es ist eine Reise, auf die sich die erzählende Person begibt, heraus aus dem lähmenden Stillstand und hinein in einen Raum der Möglichkeiten.

Zement fragen uns im letzten Song von »Passagen«: was, wenn wir die »ghosts« unserer Gegenwart und Vergangenheit gegen einen »holy ghost« des besseren Lebens eintauschen? Albert Ayler und John Coltrane nicken auf diese Frage wissend aus den Wolken. Eine lebenswerte Zukunft braucht Transzendenz, das lässt sich vom Spiritual Jazz und Free Jazz lernen und findet auch auf »Passagen« Widerhall. Vielleicht wird der »Acid Communism« nicht nur durch psychedelische Drogen, sondern auch durch musikalische Grenzerfahrungen lebendig. »This feeling, take it with you«, der Schlusssatz des Albums, steht hierfür exemplarisch. Zu spüren, vielleicht nur für eine Nacht, eine Stunde, für die Länge eines Songs, wie sich eine lebenswerte Zukunft anfühlen könnte – so schafft die Musik von Zement eine temporäre utopische Zone im Hier und Jetzt. Von hier aus lässt es sich weiterdenken, weitersprechen, weiterfühlen. Am besten gemeinsam mit anderen.

ZEMENT machen weiter mit ihrem Werk und der Erfahrung eine Musikmanufaktur aufzubauen, die Elemente des Krautrocks, des psychedelischen Rocks, des Noise-Rocks und der zeitgenössischen elektronischen Tanzmusik mit dem kosmischen Geist des freien und spirituellen Jazz und seinem polyrhythmischen Puls verbindet. ZEMENT, consisting of Philipp Hager (Guitar, Synthesizer, Bass, Saxophone, Organ, Vocals) & Christian Büdel (Drums, Percussion), is back with their fourth full-length album PASSAGEN, set to take listeners on a mesmerizing sonic journey! Crafted again by the same team which made their last record ROHSTOFF so special, their new album PASSAGEN dives even more deeper into their unique sound and art world, which stands for its own! Recorded by Florian Helleken at Hersbrooklyn Recordings, mixed by Lolo Blümler at Iron Bar Studios and mastered by Chris Hielscher at Subsounddistortion, PASSAGEN promises to build on the band’s signature fusion of sounds. Drawing on influences from the early electronic, Autobahn-inspired works of Kraftwerk, and the hypnotic repetition of Krautrock legends Neu! and CAN, Zement have crafted a unique hybrid sound that feels both nostalgic and futuristic. The rhythms still revolve and the synthesizers still swirl. Combined with psychedelic fuzzy guitars, cosmic Saxophone sounds and pulsating drums and percussion, this music manufactory brings you a new hot sound with a pop-twist, which feels as if it was made right beside the East River. Inspired by the works of artists from New York's Downtown scene from past and present, like John Zorn and Sonic Youth or LCD Soundsystem and Animal Collective and artists from London's new Jazz scene like The Comet is Coming on the other hand, PASSAGEN find ZEMENT diving even more further into an eclectic mix of contemporary electronic dance music, combined with influences from Jazz, Psychedelia, Noise and No-Wave sounds, with always in mind and body, where their musical roots lie.

To make it even more special, PASSAGEN turned out to be a concept album, in which words will find more space than ever before in the band's history. Inspired by the works of authors like Mark Fisher and Walter Benjamin the latest offering tells a coming of age story of a person, who's searching for a new life, a new self in a new place, asking questions to

themself about the world we live in, not willing to let the bitterness win. To feel, perhaps only for one night, one hour, for the the length of a song, what a future worth living could feel like – the music of Zement creates a temporary utopian zone in the here and now. From here it is possible to continue thinking, talking and feeling. Preferably together with others.

PASSAGEN is a loose narrative, a stream of consciousness, in which songs with lyrics and purely instrumental pieces complement each other. Reflection and articulation meet the euphoria of free improvisation and the catharsis of the dancefloor. Free your mind and your ass will follow - and vice versa. It is a journey, on which the narrator embarks, out of the paralyzing standstill and into a space of possibilities.

With their rough textures, ZEMENT are still going strong to build the experience of a music manufactory that incorporates elements of krautrock, psychedelic rock, noise rock and contemporary Electronic Dance Music, combined with the cosmic spirit of free and spiritual jazz and its polyrhythmic pulse. The result is an incredibly rich range of sounds that retain a pulsating energy.
