Frank the Baptist, eine genreübergreifende Rock-/Post-Punk-Band, entstand Ende der 90er Jahre in der südkalifornischen Dark-Alternative-Szene und entwickelte eine unberechenbare und erfrischende Stimme, die bald von der Gothic-Szene angenommen wurde. Gründer Frank Vollmann, ursprünglich aus New Jersey stammend, verlieh seiner Musik eine Vitalität und Direktheit, die typisch für den energiegeladenen Punk und frühen Alternative war, der seine Jugend prägte. 2003 erschien das erste Album der Band, „Diﬀerent Degrees of Empty“, das ihre Vorstellung untermauerte, dass die Dark-Music-Welt ebenso ein Ort der Kickerboots, aufgedrehten Amps und schiefen Zylinder wie ein Zufluchtsort für Poetenhemden und ätherische Echos sein sollte. 2006 war die Gruppe in Berlin ansässig, und internationale Konzerte waren alltäglich geworden. Mehrere Alben und zahlreiche Europatourneen später gilt Frank the Baptist als eine Band, auf die sich die Gegenkultur verlassen kann. Sie folgen keiner Modeerscheinung. Sie sind nicht auf einer einzigen Modewelle geritten. Ihnen ist es egal, wie die Zukunft verläuft. Ihr unbeschwertes Selbstvertrauen beruht darauf, etwas zu schaffen, das wir immer brauchen werden: einen zeitlosen Beat, einen ewigen Gesang, der sich über das Chaos der Bands erhebt, die unten im Mahlstrom leben und vergehen.

FTB nimmt derzeit ihr sechstes Studioalbum auf, dreht und veröffentlicht Videos und Singles und freut sich darauf, so schnell wie möglich wieder auf Tour zu gehen und für ihre treuen und eingefleischten Fans aus den Genres Rock, Punk, Post-Punk, Metal usw. zu spielen.

Frank the Baptist, a genre crossing rock/post-punk band, emerged from the southern California dark alternative scene in the late-nineties, an unpredictable and refreshing voice that was soon embraced by the goth scene. Founder, Frank Vollmann, originally hailing from New Jersey, brought a vitality and immediacy to his music, indicative of the energetic punk and early alternative that molded his youth. 2003 saw the release of the band's first full-length album, "Diﬀerent Degrees of Empty" cementing their notion that the dark music world should be a place of kicker boots, cranked amps, and skewed top hats as much as a refuge for poet shirts and ethereal echoes. By 2006 the group was based in Berlin, Germany and international concerts had become commonplace. Several albums and multiple European tours later, Frank the Baptist stands as a band the counterculture can count on. They don't belong to a fad. They didn't ride a single wave of fashion. They don't mind which way the future turns. Theirs is an easy confidence that comes from making something we'll always need: a timeless beat, an eternal vocal, rising above the mess of bands that live and die away below, in the maelstrom.
